Urban Planning
& Development

The concept of Urban Planning articulates the major elements of any development into a functional space. Elements broken down are simply the use of the land, the infrastructure to support the uses, and traffic of vehicles and people. These concepts are often thought of when planning major cities and even smaller towns but they can also be applied to smaller developments which incorporate housing projects and retail as well as healthcare facilities.

Uses of land include what types of buildings are used, what open areas are left for community use, potential retail areas, potential farming areas, how waterfront space might be treated and what space needs to be left for infrastructure and traffic. We discuss the project at hand with our clients to determine the level of infrastructure needed and how they envision traffic in and around the development. We work with them on creating a Master Plan for their project and then discuss how to approach construction with their budget and potential phases of the project. Creating a Master Plan upfront will allow consideration of future construction and allow a cohesive aesthetic.

As the Master Plan is broken down into segments we begin to look at the detail, the “Spaces between Places” as we like to call it. Perhaps there is an opportunity to create outdoor venues, parks and eating areas between buildings to maximize the real estate. With a Master Plan in place our team can work with you to achieve and efficient and economic outcome.
